Chores, Chickens, and the PSA(Police State of America)

Seems like every day the evidence is mounting that our freedoms as American citizens are rapidly going away. Today’s instance is the Department of Labor’s newest planned update to the Child Labor Laws. Seem that children working on the family farm or helping out at the neighbor’s place need the intimate and direct protection of the good folks in Washington. Hey I ‘m all about safety, but I guess you can’t endanger the kids by having them go out and pick the blueberries or hoe the corn. No more collecting eggs, feeding the goats, or grooming the horses either. In fact the regulation states, “Prohibited places of employment” for those under 18, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.” That’s going to put a dent in the county fair. So much for the 4-H and FFA folks. That’s ok though, the regulation provides for replacement federal government training programs to fill in the gap.

I always thought a great thing about growing up on a farm would be driving all the equipment. The news release of the regulation announces all such hazardous activity will come to a screeching halt. I guess this is about to become criminal activity.

Maybe this is just over-reacting, but for this poor man in Georgia, the police state is here, and fatal. We have now moved from suicide by cop, to death by regulation. I think I’ll have the boys mow the lawn, before it becomes illegal!
